Jhoras of Gangtok
Studio Interweave
Jhoras are natural drainage basins, which over time have been trained with poorly designed open canals that carry the run-offs into the river. These Jhoras run through dense neighborhoods of the city and have become an easy place for people to dispose of waste, making the vicinities uninhabitable and the river polluted. The quality of life in these rather neglected neighborhoods is constantly degrading and becoming increasingly unhealthy and unsafe.
The proposal aims to reimagine Jhoras as age-friendly public spaces that enable safer, healthier, and dignified living in the inner city. The design tries to address many issues at once - infrastructural, environmental, and social. It tries to illustrate the possibilities to improve the existing living condition and create pockets of vibrant neighborhoods in the city. This also creates an opportunity to carefully map and reorganize the city, which also helps develop a proper postal address system for its citizens.

The jhora idea/ proposal is very nice. If it can be implemented it will be good for curbing diseases and and fire hazards/ it is a really big problem in gangtok.
Need of the town!
Good effort, would be better if natural filtration system is explained better.
Here's what people had to say about it
