Footpaths/Pedestrian Walkways- Gangtok Smart City (GSCDL)

Construction of pedestrian walkway from Old slaughter house (near Sher-e-Punjab) to Indira bypass -
Potential Impact : [completed on 23.11.2020]
- To serve as a thoroughfare to the residents of Arithang and Bypass by augmenting the existing footpath.
- The transportation of essential commodities, access to health care, access to education and in fact access to the world and the last mile connectivity is by footpaths.

Construction of pedestrian walkway from Vinayaka Mission to Sikkim Housing Board-
Potential Impact :
- Improved pedestrian mobility.
- Improvement of existing Pedestrian walkway with chequered tiles all along the stretch including surface improvement, steel railings, etc.
- It has also assisted people by walkway in cut-off stretches.

Improvement of pedestrian footpath from Vajra/Baluwakhani to Ranipool (12km. approx.) -
Improvement and Retrofitting of Pedestrian Footpath with Kerb Stone, CC Paver Block and Duct for Fiber Optic cables. There would be provision of linking of footpath network to proper traffic calming measures such as road crossing with traffic signages, solar studs for night visibility, street furniture’s, tactiles wherever feasible and new side railings.

Quality of stones/blocks used in footpath not upto the mark. Difficult for long walk/run.

The terrain needs to be developed more (reduce sudden breaks in footpaths, increase ramps and reduce stairs) to make it friendly and comfortable for use for differently abled.

About the footpaths, why was the footpath destroyed 2-3 times and made again ?. It was in good condition. Over 10-15 years, i had noticed the footpath in good condition was destroyed 2-3 times.
